The Mobile Bay Tornados started their journey in 2013 with the following objectives: 1) Provide local players the opportunity to live their dream of playing professional basketball. 2) Help develop youth in the community using a mentoring program with players (Bullies Are Cowards, You Matter – Stay In School, and Books For Baskets – Reading Program). 3) Community growth and development showing families how to manage the financial side of their lives with debt and credit, and 4) Helping small businesses to enhance awareness and revenue using a sports medium as a source.
The Tornados continue their strides to make a difference in the community by supporting The American Cancer Society, Strides For Breast Cancer, The Boy & Girls Club, Monroe County School System, and Baldwin County School System. Our objective is not to reinvent the wheel of change in the community, we want to join other organizations that are already doing positive things within the community.
In the Tornados third season, they were ABA Gulf Coast Division Champions with a 19 – 1 record and advanced to the ABA championships in Laredo, Texas.
Going into their 4th season the Tornados are not looking back they open the season with an 185 – 93 victory. The Tornados are taking that same high-level energy into the community with the recent partnership with PUAG (People United To Advance The Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
To enhance the excitement for Dr. King’s birthday weekend, The Tornados are planning the 1st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Basketball and Music Explosion. The Tornados goal is to help create positive setting to offset the violence within the community.
